Green Acres Manor News - October 2008
Happy Halloween to you all!
October has been a month filled with many up's and down's and yet it's still not over. During this past month we've had lots of laughs and tears.
It is with a very heavy heart that I tell you that Jack Lindh, affectionately called “Jack the Pilot” by some of our staff and residents, passed away here at home on Thursday October 9th. He was surrounded by his wife, children and their spouses. Jack had been a resident at Green Acres Manor for 5 years. He had a good sense of humor, making us all laugh when he'd suddenly speak to us in Spanish. His smile was infectious and he was always a gentleman. We will all miss him greatly but we also know that he is in a better place.
On Saturday October 18th Joe and I walked in the Alzheimer's Memory Walk at Shollenberger Park in Petaluma. It was a beautiful day for a 3 mile walk. There were many sponsors and participants which made it even more fun. Thanks to everyone's generosity our Green Acres Manor team raised $1500.00 for the fight against Alzheimer's disease. Thanks to your donations the Alzheimer's Association can continue to work on finding a cure for this disease.
As some of you may have noticed we have been going thru a little remodeling and redecorating in the dining room, living room, foyer and kitchen. We thought it was about time to update the look of our home. There were some tough times during the remodel, especially when we had to eat our lunches outdoors for two days and then not use the living room for three days. The staff did a great job with redirecting the residents and thanks to Mother Nature we had perfect weather for the job. We are still finishing some painting and haven't quite yet hung the pictures but I hope to have it all completed by the beginning of November. If you haven't had a chance to come by and see the changes to the house please try to do so. If you are unable to do that then I'll have some pictures on the web site by the end of this month so you can view the newly updated rooms.
Just a reminder that we have our Pumpkin Carving Weekend coming up this weekend the 25th and 26th. Please stop by and choose a pumpkin to carve. We will have light refreshments and the tools you'll need to do all your carving. The judging will take place the following week with the winner to be announced on the 30th.
On Friday the 31st of October, Halloween, we have the 3rd graders from Kenwood Elementary coming in costume to visit with the residents and staff. During the week before the visit the residents will be stuffing goodie bags for the children and decorating treats for them as well. Please stop by if you are able to.
I am trying to move into the 21st century and would love to know if any of you would like to receive your newsletter via e-mail. If so, please e-mail me at email@example.com and it will begin next month with the November Newsletter.
Have a Happy and safe Halloween.
