Green Acres Manor News - October 2006
Hello to all,
A happy harvest is upon us. Fall is in the air, although we have had just marvelous weather this past month. Our harvest from our garden has been bountiful. I never really expected to grow this many vegetables and that they would taste so good. Residents are actually requesting our fresh garden vegetables, and know the difference of ours versus store bought. We are still picking plenty of zucchini, bell peppers, pole beans, egg plant, tomatoes, herbs, and some cucumbers. Monica has already started a winter garden with lettuce, cabbage, scallions, broccoli, cauliflower, radishes, and more. I can’t wait…all my favorites!!! We also have 6 pumpkins so far in our pumpkin patch. They are very small…so keep your fingers crossed that they grow and multiply so we can have a great weekend event October 28th and 29th. That is our pumpkin picking open house weekend. Don’t forget!
We had a wonderful time with everyone who joined us for the ice cream social. Thank you for coming. It is always nice to have a fun and relaxing day to spend with our residents and you their family. We’ll have to do it again next year. We also celebrated two birthdays this past month. Betty Lobsinger turned a very young 85 on September 21, and my beautiful wife turned an even younger???? I can’t say…She’d kill me!!! On September 18. Happy Birthday to you both.
As it is getting darker sooner now, I wanted to let everyone know that we have replaced all of the existing flood lights and installed a few more. They are all set on motion detection to make evening visits a little easier on everyone. I am also working on fixing and replacing the front gate lights so you can see us at night. That project will hopefully be completed by the first or second week of October. That will be my last outdoor project of the season before moving back indoors for more painting and redecorating projects. YEAH for me!!!
Please don’t forget…we have a very important event that we taking part in on Saturday, October 14th. That is the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk at Spring Lake Park. If you are planning on walking with us, please RSVP to me by Tuesday, October 3rd. For anyone who wants to donate to this great cause, please send the checks payable to the Alzheimer’s Association to me by Tuesday, October 10th. I would appreciate both your attendance and or your contributions. I thank you, and hope to be walking with you.
I would also like to let you all know that Monica and I will be on vacation October 17th thru the 25th. All of the staff will be here as well as the previous owners, Helga and Ed who will cover the overnight portion of the business.
Take care…until we meet again…Joe
