Green Acres Manor News - July 2011
Well, it looks like summer is finally here after some very unexpected weather in June. We have had some very nice warm and sunny days to be able to be outside and enjoy mother nature. Monica and I wanted to thank all of you who joined us in our Mardi Gras Anniversary celebration. We had a wonderful time, and hope you all did as well. It's always a pleasure to see everyone and have the time to just chat and enjoy each other's company.
Our next little adventure has us going to the Sonoma County Fair. This is an annual trek that is so much fun for the residents. We are going on Senior Day, which is Wednesday, August 3rd. Please let me know if you would like to join us. We always match up each resident with a staff member, family member or volunteer. I need to know if you want to join us by Friday, July 29th so I can make the final arrangements.
I want to invite the families of our residents to a fund raising event that we will be holding here at Green Acres. Each year, we help raise funds for the Alzheimer's Association to help in the cause of finding a cure for this terrible disease. This year we are hosting a wine tasting happy hour event on Saturday, August 27 from 4-7pm in our private backyard area. The event will be limited to 30 people at a cost of $50. All proceeds will go to the Alzheimer's Association. We are looking to have three wine makers from the area pouring a few wines as well as myself. I will also look to pull a few surprise bottles out of my private cellar. We will have appetizers and a little music to help set a nice casual mood. Please RSVP to me or Monica by Friday, August 5th. Checks can be written to the Alzheimer's Association to hold your reservation for this limited access event.
We've had a few birthdays since our last newsletter. In July, Pat celebrated her 95th, Lucille her 82nd, Audrey celebrated a milestone of 90. Christine and myself also celebrated birthdays in July. Coming up in August, Joan will celebrate her 85th on the 22nd, and Meg her 91st on the 2nd. Then, our two newest employees both celebrate their birthdays in August, Brenda on the 4th, and Gemma on the 20th. Please help us celebrate and congratulate all of them.
We are saddened by the loss of one of our residents. LaVerne passed away in her sleep in early July. She is survived by a her four loving children and numerous grandchildren. Even though she was only here for a short period, we all had the pleasure and honor of getting to know and love her. She was such a sweet and loveable person. She will be missed.
Take care, and God bless.
