Green Acres Manor News - Fall 2011
We've had a pretty fun summer...how about you? Back in August, we took 10 of our residents to the Sonoma County Fair. It was a perfect day in so many ways. The weather cooperated with a nice mildly warm day. We were able to load everyone up very quickly and make to the fair when they opened. We picked up some fresh mini-donuts on our way in to the garden exhibit which seems to be a favorite. We took a wonderful picture of the entire group while in there as well. We then moved into the shaded lawn area to listen to music and help ourselves to a little kettle corn...an appetizer to our lunch! Lunch was delicious pizzas from Mary's Pizza Shack. From there we watched a diving dog show, and then on to the turkey races. These two events were both new for us and very exciting to watch. It also worked up our appetite...so...we had to get our free ice cream cone, and again, rest in the shade. Unbelievably, it was time to go. We had never stayed this long before. A slide show of this event will be posted on the website shortly.
As part of fund raising efforts for the Alzheimer's Association, we held what we will now call our first annual...Charity Wine Tasting Event. What an amazing time! For those of you who weren't able come, you really missed out on a great time. Pictures of this event will also be on our website www.greenacresmanorsonoma.com. The event was from 4-7pm on Saturday, August 27. The reality was that it lasted just a little longer! Great food and wine was enjoyed by all as well as wonderful company of almost 50 guests, a presentation by the Alzheimer's Association, a raffle, and vineyard tours. We raised $2,500 from this event, and hope to make it even bigger and better next year.
The Alzheimer's Walk will take place on Saturday, October 15th at Shollenberger Park in Petaluma at 10am. Monica and I plan on walking and hope all of you who are available can join us. We are still raising money for them, so if you haven't made a donation and would like to...please make checks payable to the Alzheimer's Association and send them to us here at Green Acres so that they will be tallied as part of our team. We are still doing one more fund raising event at Monica's work which will be an auction for some great donated items including different wines, travel, entertainment, and other amazing things. This will take place October 3-17 at Sutter VNA & Hospice. We may also post the items on our website...stay tuned to that! Our total amount raised to date is $2,903.
Our next event here at Green Acres will be our pumpkin carving afternoon and harvest luncheon. We would like to invite all who are interested to this event on Sunday, October 30th at noon. We will have a wonderful harvest lunch followed by a pumpkin carving activity and games highlighting our home grown pumpkins. Please RSVP to me by Monday, October 24th.
We will have our annual Flu Shot Clinic on Tuesday, November 8th from 1-2pm. Sutter VNA & Hospice will be conducting the shots which we deliver to all of our staff and residents. Click here to read an interesting article about outbreaks in care facilities. Please...don't be afraid to come in to get vaccinated!
I have hired one new employee this past month. Her name in Norma, and she comes to us with a wonderful and bright personality and over five years experience. Please help me in making her feel welcome.
Birthday celebrations will be in short supply the next couple of months. We do not have any in October and only one in November which is our employee, Alex, who will be 21 on the 1st of November. What an exciting age! I can barely remember back that far! September saw lots of birthdays for us including Marjorie turning 98, Lorraine turning 96, Marcie turning 78, and staff Yolanda and Monica...ages to be left unmentioned!
Wow...I think this is my first two page newsletter! I hope you enjoy my new format that I am experimenting with. Feel free to give any feedback that you may have. I always appreciate it. Thank you
Take care, and God bless
