Green Acres Manor News - August 2010
All is well at the Acres! We have been having a very nice summer this year. The weather has been mild compared to years past, and that seems to work well for us. We journeyed to the Sonoma County Fair this past month and had a whole lot of fun with 10 of our 14 residents. We were quite the site moving about in a train like fashion, slow and steady. We all enjoyed the many attractions a small town fair has to offer including the garden exhibits, farm animals, arts and crafts, and of course the food. We steered clear of the rides, though. We thought it best to keep all of our feet firmly on the ground!
We don't have any big events planned for September, so our next big event will be the Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk. This is an annual event that we have been participating in for five years now. We are hoping to exceed our fundraising efforts of last year and reach a new goal of $2,000. We have had a very nice start to this year as we raised close to $500 at a farmers market and bake sale that Monica conducted at her work. Kudos to her, and everyone at Sutter VNA for their support. We are again selling Cold Stone Creamery pies this year. They are $15, $5 of which will go to the Alzheimer's Association. We have certificates here any time you want to pick one or more of them up. We will also take straight donations if you would like. Checks can be made out to the Alzheimer's Association. All of the funds we raise will go under team Green Acres. If you would like to participate in the actual walk, it is on Saturday, October 16 at Schollenberger Park in Petaluma. It starts at 10am.
There are more birthdays coming up in September. We have two residents and two employees. Marci will be celebrating her 77th on September 5th, and Lorraine will be celebrating her 95th on the 20th. Yolanda celebrates hers on the 6th. For those of you who don't know Yolanda or have never met her, she works overnight for us. She is such a vital part of our team. Then, Monica celebrates hers on September 18. Once again...lots of cake! We also have another new face here working with us. Ayumi (pronounced 'eye-you-me') has joined our team this past month. She comes to us with many years of experience with other care homes and will be working part time in the evenings.
That about wraps up another month here at Green Acres. I hope everyone has enjoyed their summer. We'll see you all very soon.
