Green Acres Manor News - August 2006
Wow! That first year went fast. Where did it all go??? One thing I do know is we have a great group of residents, families, and employees. Green Acres Manor would not be what it is without everyone. And…speaking of everyone, thank you for the great turnout at the BBQ. That was a very fun day. The weather cooperated, and there was great food, and great company. We hope everyone had an equally enjoyable time. We hope to do this for many, many more years to come. We also derived the idea for having other simple gatherings to help families meet and get to know each other. Look to future newsletters for dates, but we are thinking of an ice cream social in September. We will also have a day or two to hopefully pick some big fat home grown pumpkins from our newly planted pumpkin patch.
We had quite a few celebrations in July. The most special was the 67th wedding anniversary of Marie and Charlie Smith. What a special couple. I had previously stated it was their 66th in the last newsletter. I didn’t want to cheat them out of a year! We had the 94th Birthday celebration of Lydia Geistlinger on the 4th of July. She is a real fire cracker! Then, we had a lot of employee birthdays. Rebecca turned 21 on July 1st. Christine celebrated her birthday on July 6th, Lori on July 11th, and Julio on July 13th.
The gardens are all growing quite well. Monica harvested her first pole beans, green peppers, egg plant, and zucchini. We continue to gather strawberries one or two at a time. Our herb garden is going to good use now by our great chefs Christine and Maria. We are looking forward to our jalapeño peppers, tomatoes, and cucumbers which are getting close. It is amazing how fast everything is growing right now.
Our vacation was wonderful. Monica and I traveled down the coast on Highway 1 thru Monterey, Carmel, and Santa Barbara on our way to visit family in San Diego. We did some sight seeing, stopped at Hearst Castle, and did a little wine tasting. We spent a lot of time with our nieces and nephew who were also visiting San Diego from out of town. It was busy, relaxing, and fun all at the same time. It is nice to be back, though.
We are going to be involved in the Alzheimer’s Association Memory Walk once again this year. It is a fund raising walk for the Alzheimer’s Association. Last year was a lot of fun for Monica and me, and we’re hoping to get more people involved. The date of the walk is October 14th, and will take place at Spring Lake Park in the A.M... Please save the date if you are interested in walking with us, and or, save some money for a donation to help their very worthwhile cause. I will send out more information in our next newsletter, or call me with any questions.
