Green Acres Manor News - April 2010
We have lots of dates for you in this issue of our newsletter. We want to get you ready for a good time here this summer with some annual events that have historically provided all who attend very large smiles! More of that later. What's up with this weather, though. It's raining a couple days, sunny a couple of days, raining again... It seems the pollen counts are up. Everyone is experiencing allergies and having longer lasting colds, runny noses, and coughs. Definitely no fun ) : So...take good care of yourselves.
The gardens are coming along. All of the vegetable garden beds have been cleaned up from the winter, tilled, and some fresh organic soil added in. The first item to go in was our selection of tomatoes last weekend. This weekend will see quite a few more veggies go into the ground, and hopefully we will be done planting by the first week in May. I've checked the forecast, and it seems that more rain is on the way next week. The rain will help us and the plants as we of yet needed to turn on any sprinklers or drip systems.
As I mentioned last month, we expected to have a new resident or two. I would like to introduce to everyone Ruth Sanders who comes to us from her home in Oakmont, and Verl Gale whose family lives right here in Kenwood. It's always nice when people who need our care can stay in the area they are from or are used to. We do live in such a beautiful environment. Help me welcome our two new residents the next time you stop by.
There is one resident birthday coming up in the month of May...a very special person...Margaret Battin, our longest term resident, will celebrate her 85th birthday on May 16.
In May, we also will be celebrating a couple of holidays. Remember...Mother's Day is Sunday, May 9. That's right around the corner, so don't forget to make plans for the important women in your lives! If you will be taking your mom out from Green Acres that day, please let us know so we can have them ready for you. Memorial Day is then on Monday, May 31.
Now for some dates for you...
Our five year anniversary celebration will be a little early this year. We will have a Western BBQ on Saturday, June 19th. We always like having a theme for this event, so help us by coming in your best western attire. On Sunday, July 25, we will have an ice cream social. This is a casual event that everyone seems to really enjoy...making their own ice cream sundays or having an old fashioned cone. Tuesday, August 3rd will be the day that we go to the Sonoma County Fair. This is always a great time, but as some of you know, we always need lots of help. Any family member who can attend and help with their loved one will be appreciated. Please call me when you know so I can plan accordingly. Lastly, on Saturday, October 16th is the annual Memory Walk to help raise funds to find a cure for Alzheimer's. We will be doing some fund raising through the summer and early fall to help with this important cause that is near and dear to a lot of our hearts. Mark the date, though, so you can come out and walk with us.
Thank you all, we'll see you soon, and once again, take good care of yourselves.
